Two new broad gauge lines in Chhattisgarh, Tadoki-Rowghat and Abhanpur-Kurud, were opened by Indian Railways, and passenger services were started from Raipur to Rowghat and to Kurud. A train reached Rowghat for the first time since Independence, putting that remote southern pocket of the State on the country's rail map. At Raipur a foundation stone was laid for a maintenance facility for electric locomotives. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai was present and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw joined by video conference. The 95-km Dalli Rajhara-Rowghat line, built at a cost of 1,628 crore rupees, became fully operational with the 17.5-km Tadoki-Rowghat stretch. The Railway Minister listed other work in the State, including the gauge conversion of the Kendri-Abhanpur-Rajim-Dhamtari section, multi-tracking projects, the newly approved Pendra Road-Bilaspur-Uslapur third line and the Kharsia-Parmalkasa double line. Rail projects worth about 54,000 crore rupees are under way in Chhattisgarh, the State's railway budget allocation this year is 7,470 crore rupees, about 1,328 km of new track has been laid since 2014 and 32 stations are being redeveloped.
