Seven new judges take oath at the Delhi High Court; working strength rises to 50

Seven judicial officers took oath as judges of the Delhi High Court on Monday, 21 September 2026.
Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya administered the oath at a ceremony on the court premises.
Nivedita Anil Sharma and Nisha Sahay Saxena were sworn in as judges.
Sanjay Sharma, Bharat Parashar, Dr Aditi Choudhary, Dinesh Bhatt and Arun Bhardwaj were sworn in as additional judges. Arun Bhardwaj was the High Court's Registrar General.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended eight names on 10 September; the Centre notified seven.
The court's working strength is now 50 against a sanctioned strength of 60.

Judges sworn in: 7 (2 judges, 5 additional judges) Working strength: 50 Sanctioned strength: 60
Why it matters for exams: Appointment of High Court and additional judges through the Collegium is a core polity topic, and sanctioned versus working strength is a common data question.
