Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu weakens into a depression over Telangana and adjoining Andhra Pradesh

The storm named Murasu, which the India Meteorological Department had tracked up to the severe cyclonic storm stage, crossed the coast and weakened. Its national bulletin describes the system as a depression that is the remnant of Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu, lying over Telangana and the adjoining part of Andhra Pradesh. The department said it was likely to weaken further into a low pressure area within about twelve hours. The India Meteorological Department is the Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre for the North Indian Ocean, so it names and tracks every storm in this basin and issues the warnings for neighbouring countries as well. Names come from a common list the member countries of the regional panel on tropical cyclones agree on, and a name once used is not repeated. In the department's own scale a depression is a weaker stage than a cyclonic storm.
