SJVN runs the 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri hydro power station at Jhakri in Himachal Pradesh
Background
SJVN Limited operates the 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station, known as NJHPS, at Jhakri in Himachal Pradesh.
It also runs the 412 MW Rampur Hydro Power Station, which is operated on a Tandem Operating System with the Nathpa Jhakri station; when centralized operation was inaugurated, Unit-2 of Rampur was run remotely from the Nathpa Jhakri control room at Jhakri, and operating the entire Rampur station that way is the stated aim.
India's first Multi-purpose Combined Heat and Power Green Hydrogen Pilot Project was inaugurated at the Nathpa Jhakri station.
The pilot plant produces 14 kilograms of Green Hydrogen daily during 8 hours of operation, stores it at a pressure of 30 bars in six storage tanks, and is powered by SJVN's 1.31 MW Solar Power Plant at Wadhal in Shimla.
The hydrogen is used for the High Velocity Oxygen Fuel coating of turbine underwater parts and for a 25 kW fuel cell.
The National Dam Safety Authority has held a community awareness programme on the provisions of the Dam Safety Act, 2021 at the Nathpa Jhakri project, which stands on the Sutlej river system, and the Deputy Commissioner of Kinnaur took part in it.
