The committee is to be a continuing institutional platform that identifies areas needing institutional intervention, coordinates welfare measures, develops guidance and periodically reviews support initiatives for judicial officers.
It was set up on the findings of a study by the Supreme Court's Centre for Research and Planning on the well-being of District Judiciary officers, which covered occupational stress, workload, exhaustion, staffing, infrastructure, transfers, work-life balance and institutional support.
The press release refers to the Nauru Declaration on Judicial Well-being, adopted on 25 July 2024, which calls for systemic and evidence-based measures to protect the physical and mental health of judges.
