19 October 2026
Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, paid an official visit to Thailand from 15 to 17 October 2026, accompanied by his spouse Caroline Parmelin and a delegation that included Swiss business representatives. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul held talks with him and hosted a luncheon at Government House. Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Sarun Charoensuwan joined on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. The year 2026 marks the 95th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Switzerland. Both sides called for the early entry into force of the Thailand-EFTA Free Trade Agreement. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Switzerland has been Thailand's largest trading partner in Europe since 2025. They discussed cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, including the Bangkok E-Bus Programme with about 2,000 electric buses in operation, and Switzerland's KliK Foundation plan to buy carbon credits from Thai projects estimated at USD 120 million, subject to authorisation by both governments.
