Tripura's State Election Commission announces general elections to 21 urban local bodies

Tripura's State Election Commissioner Pradip Kumar Chakravarty has announced the schedule for general elections to the State's urban local bodies.
Polling will be held on 27 November and counting on 2 December.
Twenty-one urban local bodies covering 17 subdivisions in eight districts go to the polls, with 345 ward seats in all.
Nominations could be filed from 31 October to 6 November, scrutiny was fixed for 7 November and withdrawal for 10 November.
Voting will be by electronic voting machine, with security at 783 booths.
The Model Code of Conduct came into force on the day of the announcement, and the term of the existing bodies ends on 9 December.

Polling date: 27 November Counting date: 2 December Urban local bodies: 21
Why it matters for exams: Elections to municipalities are conducted by the State Election Commission, not the Election Commission of India, and that division is a standing Polity question.
