UN releases emergency funds for South Sudan, Zimbabwe and Chad ahead of El Niño-driven drought

UN relief chief Tom Fletcher has released funds from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) ahead of El Niño-driven drought in Africa.
South Sudan receives $6 million, where over 10 million people already need aid.
Zimbabwe receives $4 million for anticipatory action on food, health and nutrition.
Chad receives $3.6 million to help 350,000 people prepare for dry conditions.
The funds were released automatically once trigger thresholds were met.

Why it matters for exams: UN funds, anticipatory humanitarian action and climate phenomena like El Niño are common in current-affairs papers.
