UN Security Council renews the Haiti sanctions regime and extends its committee's work by 13 months
14 October 2026
The UN Security Council on Wednesday renewed sanctions aimed at people threatening Haiti's peace, security and stability.
The Council extended the work of its Haiti sanctions committee by 13 months.
The committee, created by the Council in 2022, has three tools: an arms embargo, a travel ban and an asset freeze.
Nine individuals and two groups are currently sanctioned.
About 1.5 million people, roughly 12 per cent of Haiti's population, have been forced from their homes by gang violence.
Haiti makes no guns or ammunition, yet an estimated 270,000 to 500,000 illegal weapons are in circulation.
