Vialidad Nacional rebuilds National Route 51, Salta's road to the Paso de Sico
26 October 2026
Vialidad Nacional is rebuilding National Route 51 in Salta province, the road that runs about 293 km from the city of Salta to the Paso de Sico on the border with Chile and forms part of the bioceanic corridor linking the Atlantic and the Pacific. Paving and realignment work is under way on Section II, from Mina La Poma to Alto Chorrillos, and Section III, from Alto Chorrillos to Campo Amarillo. The new Section III alignment runs 15 km, from km 183 to km 198, about 31 km from San Antonio de los Cobres, with a 6.80 m roadway, 1.95 m shoulders, gentler curves and grades and new culverts. Work has begun on the first 6 km of the new Section II alignment. The route is the main outlet for mining production and tourist traffic in the Rosario de Lerma and Los Andes departments.
