Wayanad turns the country's first fully e-waste-free district as all its local bodies finish collection
1 November 2026
Wayanad has become the country's first fully e-waste-free district, with the district-level declaration made on Kerala Piravi day.
All 23 grama panchayats and the three municipalities of the district completed collection by 30 October.
The 50-day campaign, which began on 10 September, gathered 80 tonnes of discarded electronic and electrical equipment, of which 31 tonnes came from government offices.
Noolpuzha grama panchayat, which handed over 5,423 kg in two phases, was the first local body in the country to be declared fully e-waste-free.
The District Suchitwa Mission coordinated the campaign under the State government's BHOOMI project, with Clean Kerala Company among the partners handling disposal.
The Chief Minister is to make the formal declaration at a function at Kalpetta on 20 November.
