Xi Jinping meets Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, in Beijing

30 October 2026

Chinese President Xi Jinping met Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, in Beijing. The central government's English portal carried the meeting as a Xinhua report. On the same day the portal reported that Xi held talks in Beijing with Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the German President, so two European heads of State were received in the Chinese capital on one day. In China the President is the head of State, while the Premier heads the State Council, the central people's government. Li Qiang is Premier, and State Council decrees are issued over his signature. Beijing is the capital of the People's Republic of China and the seat of the State Council. The portal published both meetings as short Xinhua reports, without a joint statement.
