An autonomous body under the Ministry of Earth Sciences: the centre behind Keralam's swell surge forecasts

The swell surge warning now in force for the Keralam coast comes from the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services.
INCOIS describes itself as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India.
Its swell surge service explains Kallakkadal as coastal flooding linked to long-period swells that can flood low-lying areas even when local winds are calm.
INCOIS is developing SIVAS, a system that forecasts coastal inundation along the Keralam coast with a lead time of up to three days.
The service is offered in English, Hindi and Malayalam.

Parent ministry: Ministry of Earth Sciences Inundation forecast lead time: Up to 3 days Languages of the service: English, Hindi, Malayalam
Why it matters for exams: The parent ministry of each science agency is a repeat question, and INCOIS is the one Keralam hears from every monsoon.
