Argentine-born César Milstein shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for monoclonal antibodies

César Milstein was born on 8 October 1927 in Bahia Blanca, Argentina.
He shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1984 with Niels K. Jerne and Georges J.F. Köhler, receiving one third of the prize.
The citation was for theories concerning the specificity in development and control of the immune system and the discovery of the principle for production of monoclonal antibodies.
He worked at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, United Kingdom, and died there in 2002.
With Köhler he developed a method for fusing tumour cells with antigen-immune cells to produce antibodies of a single type.
