First phase of Project Beacon Town completed in 63 local bodies of Kannur district

The first phase of Project Beacon Town, run by the Kannur district administration through local bodies, has been completed in 63 local bodies. The 63 towns and urban stretches declared Beacon Towns are meant to serve as model clean public spaces. The first phase began on 15 August with a baseline survey in each chosen area, followed by more than 130 cleaning drives with public participation. Work covered waste management, public toilets, rest stops, footpaths, greening, parks and road safety, and clearing waste black spots. The drive runs on the idea 'Ente Town Ente Abhimanam' (My town, my pride) and is coordinated with the Suchitwa Mission and other departments. A district team will inspect the declared towns, and a second phase needing more funds is to be finished by 31 March 2027.
