Kerala's water research centre, from isotope hydrology to a water resources museum
Background
Water management is a standing Kerala problem, from groundwater to the backwaters, and the State has its own research body for it.
The Centre for Water Resources Development and Management was established as an autonomous research organisation by the Government of Kerala, under its Science and Technology Policy, in February 1978.
CWRDM is described as a premier research and development institution in the water sector.
The Centre was amalgamated with the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment in its Silver Jubilee Year, 2003.
CWRDM has four Research Groups: Hydrology and Climatology; Ecology and Environment; Land and Water Management; and Training and Outreach.
About 500 projects have been completed and more than 2000 scientific papers and 1500 research reports have been brought out.
Its laboratories include an Isotope Hydrology lab, a Hydrogeology lab and a Geomatics lab, and its facilities include a Water Resources Museum.
The Administration and Finance Wing of the Centre is headed by the Registrar.
