Who chairs what in Kerala's health mission, from Chief Minister to District Collector
Background
Kerala's state health programmes are delivered through the National Health Mission, and its institutional framework is a chain of societies rather than a single office.
At the State level, the Mission functions under the overall guidance of the State Health Mission, which is headed by the Chief Minister of Kerala.
The State Health and Family Welfare Society carries the functions under the Mission; its Governing Body is headed by the Minister for Health and its Executive Committee by the Additional Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary or Secretary for Health and Family Welfare.
Every district has a District Health and Family Welfare Society.
The Governing Body of the District Health Mission is headed by the Chair Person of the District Panchayat, while its Executive Committee is headed by the District Collector.
The State Program Management Unit acts as the main secretariat of the State Health and Family Welfare Society, and the State Health System Resource Centre serves as the apex body for technical support to the State.
The Mission has six financing components, among them the RCH Flexipool, the NUHM Flexipool and a flexible pool for Non-Communicable diseases.
In plain words
NHM National Health Mission — The umbrella programme through which states run centrally supported health work.
NUHM National Urban Health Mission — The urban arm of the health mission, with its own financing pool.
