Ladakh launches 'Ladakh Sanjeevani Seva' with 73 ambulances mapped to all 248 villages

The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh has launched Ladakh Sanjeevani Seva, a 24x7 ambulance service covering all 248 villages in all seven districts of the Union Territory. The service runs a fleet of 73 ambulances with trained drivers and is reached on the helpline number 108. Every village is mapped to a designated ambulance and driver, and each ambulance is linked to its nearest health centre. On average an ambulance is about 13 km from the villages it serves. District-wise deployment is 18 ambulances in Leh, 17 in Kargil, 12 in Changthang, 9 each in Sham and Nubra, and 4 each in Zanskar and Drass. Health workers recorded expected delivery dates village by village, and over 1,100 pregnant women are now on a centralised database linked to the ambulance nearest to them. The service also supports patients with cancer, kidney disease, heart disease, stroke and serious lung disease who need repeated hospital visits.

Ambulances: 73 Villages covered: 248 across all seven districts Helpline: 108
Why it matters for exams: Ladakh now has seven districts and 248 villages, and 108 is the national emergency ambulance helpline — both are facts an examiner can set a question on.
