Set up in 1957 under ICAR: the Kochi institute behind the 'From Waste to Worth' marine waste exhibition

The 'From Waste to Worth' exhibition on marine waste in Kochi was organised by the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT).
CIFT was set up in 1957 and started work at Cochin, which remains its headquarters.
It is an institute of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
It is the country's only national centre doing research in every field linked to fishing and fish processing.
Besides Kochi, it has research centres at Veraval in Gujarat, Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Mumbai in Maharashtra.
Its exhibition showed how discarded nets, ocean plastic and old boats can be turned into useful products.

Set up: 1957 Parent body: ICAR Research centres: Veraval, Visakhapatnam, Mumbai
Why it matters for exams: Which ICAR fisheries institutes sit in Kochi, and when CIFT was founded, are regular Kerala PSC questions.
