Seven of Kargil's 21 Hill Council seats reserved for women by a draw of lots

A draw of lots at the Conference Hall in Baroo, Kargil has decided which Hill Council seats in the district will be reserved for women. Seven of Kargil's 21 constituencies were picked. The exercise was held under Section 3 of the LAHDC Act. Rakesh Kumar, IAS, who is Deputy Commissioner of Kargil and Chief Executive Officer of LAHDC Kargil, presided. Kaneez Fatima, Headquarter Assistant, and Zakir Hussain, Election Officer, took part. The draw followed the delimitation of the district's constituencies, which was completed a day earlier. Reservation by lot is meant to keep the choice of seats free of any official's discretion.
