World Bank Group reclassifies Viet Nam as an upper-middle-income country

The World Bank Group reclassified Viet Nam as an upper-middle-income country in July 2026, according to the Bank's Viet Nam country overview. The overview records that Viet Nam's GDP grew 8 per cent in 2025, driven by a rebound in manufacturing exports and a recovery in domestic demand. GDP per capita rose from under US$500 in 1986 to US$5,066 in 2025 in current US dollars. The extreme poverty rate, measured at living on less than US$4.20 a day, fell from 14 per cent in 2010 to under 4 per cent in 2025.
