Kerala High Court: one-year senior residency bond of PG doctors runs from the date of result, State told to create posts or release them within a month

Justice Viju Abraham of the Kerala High Court ruled on 30 September 2026 that the one-year senior residency obligation of postgraduate doctors from government medical colleges starts from the date of publication of the result.
The period counts whether or not a posting is granted soon after.
The State had about 600 senior resident vacancies for roughly 1,000 postgraduates, as the 2021 and 2022 batches finished together.
The court called doctors sitting idle without service 'a national waste'.
The government must either create additional posts or release the petitioners from the bond within one month.
