UN Women launches a Digital, Innovation and AI Hub for gender equality
25 September 2026
UN Women launched a Digital, Innovation and AI Hub on Friday, 25 September 2026, during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
The hub brings together researchers, governments, technology companies and women's rights organizations to shape artificial intelligence in ways that benefit women and girls.
According to UN Women, men hold nearly eight in 10 AI jobs and almost nine in 10 senior leadership positions in the technology.
A UN Women analysis of 133 AI systems found that 44 per cent showed gender bias.
The hub will support Member States in developing gender-responsible digital and AI policies.
UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous said AI can deepen gender inequality or help overcome it.
