UN Human Rights office calls for halt to Msafer Yatta demolitions in the West Bank

On 25 September 2026 the UN Human Rights office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory called on Israel to immediately halt the demolition of Palestinian villages in Msafer Yatta, South Hebron Hills.
On 23 September, Israeli forces demolished dozens of structures, including homes, water tanks and solar panels, in the village of Jinba.
Three additional villages in Msafer Yatta had already been almost entirely destroyed in September 2026.
There are 12 villages in Msafer Yatta housing over 1,100 Palestinians.
According to OCHA, demolitions have displaced 1,500 people in the occupied West Bank in 2026.
In the 1980s, Israel declared some 30,000 dunums of Msafer Yatta as "Firing Zone 918".
Ajith Sunghay, Head of UN Human Rights – OPT, said forcible transfer of a civilian population by an occupying power is a war crime.

Villages in Msafer Yatta: 12 Residents: over 1,100 Displaced by demolitions in West Bank, 2026 (OCHA): 1,500 Military zone declared in the 1980s: Firing Zone 918

FAO alert on El Niño and food security in war-hit Sudan

An alert from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), reported by the UN on 25 September 2026, warned of worsening food security in Sudan.
El Niño threatens to bring 30 to 40 per cent less rainfall than usual.
Farmers, pastoralists and fishing communities in regions largely reclaimed by Government forces from the RSF are at risk.
FAO's support includes vaccinating livestock and giving goats to displaced women-headed households.
An FAO drought-resistant seed project turned an initial $17 million outlay into sorghum crops worth more than $500 million.
FAO needs $193 million for Sudan this year and is only 23 per cent funded.

Expected rainfall shortfall: 30 to 40 per cent FAO requirement for Sudan this year: $193 million Share funded: 23 per cent Seed project outlay / sorghum value: $17 million / more than $500 million
Why it matters for exams: Links El Niño, a recurring climate phenomenon in geography papers, with the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and the role of FAO.
