Background
This background explains the State behind the launch of the BHASHINI Konkani AI model in Panaji on 22 October.
The Goa government lists Konkani as Goa's official language; Marathi, Hindi, English and Portuguese are also in use.
Portugal held Goa until 19 December 1961, when Operation Vijay brought it into the Indian Union.
Goa, Daman and Diu were then run together as a Union Territory.
On 30 May 1987 that territory was split: Goa became India's twenty-fifth State, and Daman and Diu stayed Union Territories.
Goa has two districts, twelve talukas and a single-chamber Legislative Assembly of forty seats.
Its capital is Panaji, where the Portuguese moved their capital from Old Goa in 1843.
