Bailadila in Dantewada: the iron ore range behind Bacheli, Kirandul and the Nagarnar pellet chain

The Bailadila range in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh carries the iron ore deposits worked by NMDC Limited, a central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Steel.
Bacheli is the mining and processing settlement on the range, and Kirandul is the other principal mining town.
Ore fines and slimes from the Bailadila operations are turned into concentrate, which is then made into pellets for steelmakers.
Nagarnar, near Jagdalpur in Bastar district, is the site of NMDC's downstream plant complex.
A 135-km slurry pipeline links the processing plant on the range to Nagarnar, running through Bastar and Dantewada districts.

India and Bhutan: diplomatic ties, hydropower and trade

Diplomatic relations between Bhutan and India were established in January 1968; the Golden Jubilee was celebrated in 2018.
Bhutan's foreign ministry calls cooperation in hydropower the centrepiece of the economic cooperation between the two countries.
India is Bhutan's largest development and most important trading partner, both as a source and a market.
As a landlocked country, all of Bhutan's third-country imports and exports transit through India.
India is the biggest market for several Bhutanese exports, including electricity, dolomite and ferrosilicon.
India's assistance has grown substantially since 1961, when Bhutan launched its first Five Year Plan.

Bhutan: Thimphu is the capital and the ngultrum is pegged to the Indian rupee

Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan.
Bhutan's currency is the Bhutanese ngultrum (BTN).
The World Bank records that the ngultrum is pegged to the Indian rupee at par, a peg introduced in 1974.
Monetary policy is anchored by this peg, and the IMF letter hosted by ADB refers to the Royal Monetary Authority's role in aligning money market conditions with the monetary policy stance.
With 85 percent of Bhutan's imports coming from India and the exchange rate pegged to the rupee, the World Bank says Bhutan's inflation rate is closely linked to that of India, albeit with a time lag.

Guterres calls from Islamabad for an end to the United States-Iran war and the restoration of navigational rights

Opening a two-day official visit to Pakistan, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appealed for an end to the United States-Iran war and to the damage it has done to global trade.
Speaking to journalists in Islamabad, he told all parties to end the conflict, return to diplomacy and fully restore navigational rights and freedoms in accordance with international law.
The crisis began in late February 2026 following joint United States-Israeli strikes on Iran; Tehran launched counter-attacks on targets in Gulf countries and Jordan and blocked transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a corridor critical for trade in crude oil, fertilisers and liquefied natural gas. Hundreds of ships and their crews have been stuck at sea for months.
Fighting has also spread to Yemen's Red Sea coast, where Houthi forces are battling government troops, supported by Saudi Arabia, for control of the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Mr Guterres credited Pakistan with helping to create the conditions for dialogue, citing the 17 June Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, the subsequent ceasefire and the framework for further negotiations.
He also noted that Pakistan and Denmark led Security Council resolution 2823, which strengthens accountability for crimes against UN peacekeepers and drew 153 co-sponsoring countries, the largest number of co-sponsors for a Security Council resolution in UN history.

MoSPI seeks comments on widening the Index of Services Production to about 78.4 per cent of services sector GVA

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has published an Approach Paper on expanding the scope and coverage of the Index of Services Production and invited comments from stakeholders.
MoSPI began a monthly compilation of the Index of Services Production for the formal sector on a trial basis in July 2026, with 2024-25 as the base year.
The initial framework tracks 19 broad service sub-sectors using high-frequency administrative data and data on outward supplies from GST, together accounting for about 60 per cent of services-sector Gross Value Added.
Core government tasks, non-market activities and GST-exempt services are excluded from the present framework.
The Approach Paper sets out methods to bring in three service areas left out so far: Education, Human Health and Residential Care, and Public Administration and Defence. Together these represent nearly 21 per cent of services GVA for 2024-25.
Adding them would take the monthly index's coverage to approximately 78.4 per cent of services-sector GVA and allow a unified all-encompassing index.
Comments and suggestions may be sent by 16 October 2026. The Ministry notes that the services sector drives more than half of the national Gross Value Added.

At present yellow card holders get one litre a quarter while pink, blue and white card holders get half a litre, and the State says it has no option but to raise the half-litre entitlement to one litre. The letter adds that coastal, hilly and remote areas depend heavily on subsidised kerosene, that limits on LPG distribution have pushed up kerosene demand, and that traditional fishing boats need kerosene in proportion to engine capacity.
